Induction, orientation and position descriptions

Element 7.1.3: Roles and responsibilities
Roles and responsibilities are clearly defined, and understood, and support effective decision making and operation of the service.

 

Where are you at? Can you improve? Do you detect any gaps in compliance?

Induction, orientation and position descriptions
Do you provide a simple checklist of what’s included in your staff induction and orientation process.

Using the adage; ‘slow is fast’ should be adopted when inducting a new team member. Take your time and facilitate a detailed and thorough orientation including all regulatory and service based documentation including: the EYLF, National Quality Standard and service based policies and procedures.

It’s critical that this has been supported by an accurate and logically written Position Description that will support early adjustment into the role and a clear understanding of its responsibilities.

To enhance performance, the job description can be accompanied by a ‘weekly routine checklist’. This will assist the new staff member to gain confidence and become the basis for monitoring and reviewing performance.
