This week’s subject is: Families are supported    

Element 6.1.3 Families are supported    

Current information is available to families about the service and relevant community services and resources to support parenting and family wellbeing.

How does your service ensure that relevant information is provided to families to support them in their parenting role?

Is this information provided to families in a variety of ways to meet their individual and preferred communication needs?

Dedicate time to research what community services, support and resources are available in your local area. Collect brochures, information and contact details and ensure its readily available to families. Consider including a community resources section in your newsletter to share on a regular basis. 

Provide evidence that parents and families have access to policies and procedures and that they are reminded that this information is available to them at any time. Make this information and general information about your service easily accessible by allowing access online via parent login portal, group emails, information sharing apps and social media. Also collect evidence to show they are included in the policy review process along with examples of communication and feedback.

Remember, parents must be provided with at least 14 days’ notice before any change is made to an existing policy or procedure.

Communication with Families

Within System7 go to QA6 / Modules 10, 11, 12 and 13 to submit self-assessment notes and if required, open a QIP issue if you detect compliance gaps or areas of improvement in relation to communication, access to policies and procedures, information about community services and policy changes.

The Childcare Centre Desktop also contains related resources including the monthly ‘do-it-with-you’ newsletter templates for families. These have proven to be very popular and a reliable source of family feedback.
