QIP Nudges

Professional Development Plans

By September 5, 2022 No Comments

Welcome to our weekly quality improvement support series for 2022.

“It’s our polite nudge in the ribs to help you and your team stay organised and on task.”

This week’s subject is: Professional Development Plans

Element 7.2.3: Development of professionals – Educators, co-ordinators and staff members’ performance is regularly evaluated and individual plans are in place to support learning and development.

Education and care service teams are often made up of a diverse group of professionals who are equally knowledgeable yet differ in their professional development needs. It’s important that leaders work with individual educators to monitor their skills and performance and plan collaboratively for continual improvement to ensure best practice.

All staff, educators and management working with children are required to be included in a system of regular performance review and have individual Professional Development Plans in place.

Professional Development Plans must be developed with the individual Service needs, context and philosophy in mind as well as ensuring they’re catered to and reflect the individual needs of the staff representing the Service.

Ensure that Professional Development Plans are a living document that are regularly reviewed and updated following individual staff performance appraisal meetings and at regular intervals throughout the year.
