Welcome to our weekly quality improvement support series for 2022.

“It’s our polite nudge in the ribs to help you and your team stay organised and on task.”

This week’s subject is Sun Protection Management

Element 2.2.1: Supervision. At all times, reasonable precautions and adequate supervision ensure children are protected from harm and hazard

Have you recently reviewed your sun protection policy, procedure and practices?

How does your Service stay informed of sun safe guidelines and implement current practices recommended by reputable and recognised authorities?

Has your team considered new and innovative ways to promote sun safety practices with your families?

Ensure you keep up to date on current guidelines from recognised authorities by subscribing to updates and newsletters. Join the SunSmart program to support your Service meet its regulatory requirements with sun protection.

Download, and promote the SunSmart app to families. The app not only provides updates about daily/hourly UV levels, but also provides a sunscreen calculator and reminders to reapply. Share the SunSmart app link in your newsletter, including current and practical information about sun safe practices for families to implement in their everyday lives.

Include a sun safety section in your regular newsletter, detailing and promoting the sun safe practices implemented at the Service in accordance with your Sun Safe Policy and procedure. Attach your Sun Safe Policy & invite families to provide feedback. When requesting feedback, ask questions specific to your Service practices, to encourage feedback.

Adding a UV widget to your Service website homepage or installing a UV Meter at the Service/School are other great ways to promote sun safety and increase awareness.
