Welcome to our weekly quality improvement support series for 2021.
“It’s our polite nudge in the ribs to help you and your team stay organised and on task.”
This week’s subject is: Parent views are respected.
Element 6.1.2: Parent views are respected
The expertise, culture, values and beliefs of families are respected, and families share in decision-making about their child’s learning and wellbeing.
What systems does your Service have in place to ensure that your family’s views are consistently sought out, valued and respected?
Family input and feedback is crucial in supporting each child’s individual needs, learning and wellbeing. There are a number of strategies that your Service can implement to foster family involvement into their child’s learning, routines and experiences whilst ensuring consistency between the home environment and the Service.
Ensure families know they can make valuable contributions to curriculum decision making and documentation of children’s learning if they choose to through reminders and prompts via: the program, surveys, daily diary/ communication book, emails, children’s portfolio, online forum and regular newsletters.
Educators can gain valuable knowledge by engaging in regular meaningful and intentional discussions with families to collate specific feedback about children’s learning, progress and experiences at the Service.
Archive evidence of how the Service invites parents and families to contribute and comment on the Educational Program, practice and routines. This could include formal or informal interactions between educators and family members.
