Welcome to our weekly quality improvement support series for 2020.
“It’s our polite nudge in the ribs to help you and your team stay organised and on task.”
This week’s subject is: Enrolment and Orientation
Element 6.1.1: Engagement with the service
Families are supported from enrolment to be involved in the service and contribute to service decisions.
Steve Covey, author of 7 Habits of Highly Effective people said: “with people, slow is fast”.
From the position of ‘enrolment and orientation’ this means to take your time, provide quality information to families, answer questions in detail, be transparent, listen and practice clear and concise communication.
The orientation process may take a little longer but it will convert into less repeated conversations and a better relationship from the outset.
You only get one chance at a first impression – one chance to ensure each family feels that they have made the right decision for their child. This impression begins at the first meeting, extends to the service tour, documentation and orientation.
Keeping in mind that throughout this whole process the child’s sense of security and engagement can influence the outcome. In a perfect world, they need to feel comfortable enough to engage with educators, activities and other children from day one.
